The BETA is concept version of Remote Syslog. This page will only be updated if there is a new BETA version. Before you start the installation make sure that:

  • you made a backup
  • you installed the latest stable version
  • you understand that this is a test/unstable version
  • you checked the availability of the stable version. Maybe the BETA is already outdated

This version is not a final product and has probably unstable features. If you like a nice stable version please do NOT use this version.

1 Installation BETA

The beta is a add-on to the stable version. To enroll the BETA version run:

  • Download Remote Syslog BETA
    • wget
  • Extract archive
    • tar -xvf rsbeta1132.tar
  • Go to the following directory
    • cd rsbeta
  • Make the installer executable
    • chmod +x upgradebeta
  • Run the installer as root
    • ./upgradebeta

2 Known issues

2.1 Unresolved issues by ID

Open large log files require a larger memory limit then 128MB.
Example error (var/log/apache2/error.log):

  • Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 171470608 bytes)

2.2 Workaround by ID

  • Edit as root the /etc/php/7.0/apache2/php.ini
    • vi /etc/php/7.0/apache2/php.ini
  • Change the following line
    • memory_limit = 128M to memory_limit = 512M
  • Restart Apache2 service
    • service apache2 restart

Fix in 1 command:

  • Single command fix (run as root):
    • sed -i ‘/memory_limit/c\memory_limit = 512M’ /etc/php/7.0/apache2/php.ini && sudo service apache2 restart

3 Restore stable version

To restore the latest stable version run:

  • rsinstaller -a
